An apartment fire left 10 families without homes in Hendersonville, Tennessee, this week. Still, one woman is holding close to her faith after three of her beloved Bibles were recovered by firefighters.
“I believe in miracles, and I’m really blessed. I’m so grateful that nobody was injured,” Sharon Layne told WKRN-TV. “And I trust God that, even though we lost everything, that I know that He’s faithful.”
Layne, who described herself as “a strong woman of faith in Christ Jesus,” became emotional as she shared how firefighters went inside to recover three Bibles that meant a great deal to her; one of the holy books belonged to her late husband.
“They went in and searched for my three Bibles, and one of them was from my husband of 30 years that recently had passed,” she said. “One of them was from my mother that recently passed, and one of them was my Bible.”
Thankfully, firefighters got all three books, and Layne said one rescue worker noticed something incredible. While the inferno impacted the outside of at least one of the Bibles, the inside pages were totally untouched.
“[A firefighter] said, ‘Do you notice how the outside’s burned?’ he said, ‘But the inside, all of your pages, there’s nothing burned or singed on your Bible,’” Layne recounted.
This solace for the homeowner offers peace and calmness amid a tough time. Pray for Layne and those families struggling after losing so much.
